Practices & Lineage
My teaching has grown from a lifelong relationship with movement, health, and healing: classical ballet, yoga, Feldenkrais, mindfulness, and the many ways the body can become a conduit for greater awareness and change.
I do not see these practices as separate disciplines to be mastered. Each offers a different doorway into greater awareness, ease, curiosity, and choice. Together, they shape a way of working that is attentive to the individual, responsive rather than prescriptive, and grounded in the understanding that learning can happen at every stage of life.
The pages in this section introduce the principal strands of my work:
The Feldenkrais Method explores learning through gentle movement and attention. It includes Awareness Through Movement group lessons and Functional Integration individual sessions.
Yoga reflects the traditions that have informed my teaching over many years, approached with respect for individual bodies, changing needs, and the value of intelligent adaptation.
Dance Your Yoga brings together movement, music, imagination, and the pleasure of expression.
Lineage & Training
Zsuzsa Belhazy-Kovacs, M.S.M.E., E-RYT, YACEP, Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (GCFP)
I began as a classical ballet dancer, studying for twelve years in Hungary before continuing my life and work in the United States. As a young mother, newly arrived in the United States, I discovered yoga in Vermont through Lilias Folan’s PBS series, Lilias, Yoga and You. Yoga became a lasting part of my life, offering the same deep connection to movement that ballet had once given me.
My early yoga-teacher learning started with YogaKids, with Marsha Wenig organized by Monica Veneziano, who to my delight greeted me in Hungarian and became a mentor on my yoga journey. This experience brought together my Hungarian roots with an imaginative, playful, and whole-person approach to yoga—one in which movement, story, creativity, and attention are all ways of learning.
I later completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training with Beth Shaw’s YogaFit and am an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT), with more than 3,000 hours of teaching experience. YogaFit’s emphasis on safety, functional alignment, breath awareness, anatomy, injury prevention, mindfulness, and adapting practice to the individual continues to inform my teaching.
My yoga studies have also included Iyengar Yoga with Karin Stephan and Patricia Walden, as well as numerous workshops in Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kripalu, and Yoga Dance. I hold a certificate in Yoga Meets Dance, also known as Yoga Dance, with Beth Rigby, formerly of Kripalu. This work has contributed to the movement, music, imagination, and expressive dimension of my teaching.
Later, alongside my Feldenkrais training, I completed pre-medical coursework and substantial study in psychology and kinesiology. I undertook this learning because I wanted a deeper understanding of how body and mind work together, and how movement, attention, and experience can support health and healing. I did not pursue a degree in these fields, but this learning continues to inform my teaching.
After four years of intensive study, I graduated from the Feldenkrais Institute of New York, under the direction of David Zemach-Bersin, and became a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner.
Mindfulness practice, including the influence of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, has also shaped the way I work with attention, stress, and the inner experience of movement. The expressive-dance work of Daniel Leven, Dunya’s Dancemeditation and Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms have also been distinct influences of my teaching and practices.
